sunrise on my walk to work
Hey Everyone! So it has been way too long since my last post, and as you can tell by this picture, it is getting cold here and fast! With winter comes the loss of about 5 minutes of daylight every day... womp womp. The upside to the sun not rising until about 9am is that I get to see it come up on my walk to work, which makes for magical mornings : ) I got a little fancy with the micro zoom on my camera and took this picture on Monday. Hope everyone is doing well!
Peace and Love from Bethel : )

Hello all you wild wild animals out there! I'm such a noodge, I know. I'm a total mess. I'm not going to go into the whole "sorry I haven't posted yet" speech because, well, c'mon -- y'all know I'm just a plain old hot mess of a human being. You're always supposed to show up fashionably late, anyway. And since it's Fashion Week in NYC this week... I've decided to be be just that - FASHIONably late, (says the girl wearing no bra, a t-shirt and pineapple pants at 8:30pm on a Saturday night in nyc). Very fashionable.
Anyway, my first post if of my roommate's (the epic "Carol") room. She found a cockroach in the apartment and ripped her room apart (as you can see from the photo). Bed moved to the center of the room. Sheets stripped from the bed. Even posters off the wall.... I try to tell her that there are some things (like cockroaches or a nasty NY attitude) that just come with the territory. She refused to sleep in the apartment and went to sleep at a friend's house that night - after keeping me awake screaming for two hours as she ripped apart the apartment looking for the damn bug. God's creature.
Thanks for keeping the blog alive while I've been out galavanting around nyc. It's hard work being such a socialite. (Hope you sense the sarcasm... I've actually been babysitting more than anything).
Love my favorite critters and creatures: geege, mcc, and the santhinator.

TOO HOT!!
So Maine has been in the 90s the last couple of days, which is way too hot (thank goodness there's a hurricane coming through this weekend!) But last night, my community and I as well as some former JVs went down to the ocean (only about 15 min walk from our house) and jumped into the cold water, this is them after! I actually didn't jump in but I felt this was the best pic to show off Portland this week.

on my walk to work...
I pass this abandoned boat everyday on my walk to work and just think it's so cool- and so very Bethel. What looks like a field is actually the tundra and soon (sooner than I would like) the tundra will be frozen over! Some people think the first freeze will happen end of September, others think October, but everyone agrees that it will definitely be frozen by Halloween! The one good thing about the tundra freezing over is that my walk to work will become significantly shorter since I'll be able to cut through it instead of walking around/over it like I do now (a bonus when it's -30 degrees and colder haha). Oh Alaska.

Week 2 in MAINE!
So this past weekend we got to do some fun stuff like walk around the city, go to the Portland Headlight which was beautiful (even though it was a little overcast), and go grocery shopping where we found Lobster for $4.99/lb. Being that we are on a small stipend for groceries...we bought some haha...but only bought 4 for the 6 of us, even though the woman at the grocery store told us that normally she eats about 2 lobsters for a meal (oops). But 4 actually lasted us and we tried to make our own lobster rolls. I've been on the hunt for the cheapest Lobster roll in town since I want to be like a typical Mainer, but $8.25 (the cheapest we've found) is still a little too much, even though I may just splurge at one time. The lobster and our lobster roll creation was delicious even though we were criticized by one of our JVC support people that we did it horribly wrong...but hey, lobster is lobster, and Maine is the place to be for Lobster so i'll eat it however I want.
p.s. getting all the meat out of the lobster reminded me of eating crabs, and baltimore, and then LOYOLA, and so the best transition from crab is lobster, so lobster is our new best friend!! sorry Santh, salmon just isn't as good!
